Ramadan in Yemen
Limited edition of 1000 copies
€75

The first 250 copies are personally numbered, stamped, embossed and signed by the Australian artist Max Pam. The cover's clamshell from « Ramadan in Yemen » is designed by Titus Nemeth. What could I say about Yemen that did it justice. I tried in my journal to work it honestly. I tried with 60 rolls of black and white 120 film to translate the experience. That hot, spare and beautiful Ramadan. No eating or drinking anything between sunrise and sunset. The faithful waiting for the moment. The cannon booms from the mosque in the afterglow of the day. KABOUMMM and a frenzy of quat buying, tea drinking and food eating begins in the suqs and squares and oases and towns all over the country. Everyone happy, elated laughing and joking sitting down together as one nation. And you know what, people always wanted me to share and be part of their Ramadan, their community, their Yemen. I travelled all over the country with them. To Shibam, Taizz, Al Mukallah, Sanaa, over the desert, by the sea and into the mountains. The shared taxis were always a half past dead Peugeot 405’s with sometimes 10 or 12 people jammed in.The 92 pages of this book give my version of that unforgettable Ramadan month. An experience freely given to me by the generosity of Yemeni people. © Max PamÉditions Bessard, 2012.92 pp., 90 color illustrations, 11x11". HarboundISBN-13: 978-2-9537204-0-2

Chattanooga, The Green Factory
Edition of 2000 only 200 signed copies
€75

I vaguely remember some of the landscapes of Cormac McCarthy’s first novels. The moist atmosphere of some plays written by Tennessee Williams in the region. But once I arrived in Chattanooga, I discovered a totally different country. A life separate from the one I had briefly glimpsed while covering stories for French newspapers in major U.S. cities. Something very different from what Europeans, sometimes stuck in their stereotypes, could perceive from the other side of the Atlantic. When I arrived in the city and in the factory I had a lot preconceived artistic project that I wanted to experiment. But after a few days there, I decided to try to erase myself from my work in an attempt to show through the images, in the most faithful way, the daily life and aspirations of this America. The idea of this original assemblage of pages, designed to suggest a direct access in those stories and lives, imposed itself naturally as fast as did the choice of vivid colors, contrasting with the use black and white in my previous work. I found that it was important to recreate the warmth and generosity of these encounters.I was very touched by the way the staff and the executives of Alstom great me and helped me in my work. They opened their homes without reluctance to "the frenchy" whose English skills are often uncertain. They showed me their intimacy and even agreed to share, in their own words, their idea of happiness. We have never talked about luxury sedans, trips to exotic destinations or stock market index but simply about basic values. As I hope I manage to suggest throughout the book, they cherish their work, sundays with the family, health and happiness of their children. Welcome to their home. ©Pierre Bessard

History Of Monuments
Limited edition of 450 copies
€85

« Since August 2009, I started to work with two hundred models over fifteen days, shooting the 42-metre-long History of Monuments. This work is my reflection on what is told about civilisations, beauties, virtues, standards and norms The models are smeared with mud and placed into the carved out contours of the photo backdrop. Chinese traditions are handed down from generation to generation with many documents on the historical figures, poetries, literature, dramas, etc. Often the powerful people like to summarize their achievements during their reign times. So each dynasty has its interpretations of its dynasty and the former dynasties. It is undeniable that many such versions are misguided. » ©Wang Qingsong

Remarkable accordion fold book that can be read on both sides and measures 8,40m in length when fully opened. Presented in an elegant handmade slipcase box.
